Twitter to Roll Out 'Verified Accounts'

Twitter has been getting into a bit of trouble lately because of mischief makers pretending to be other people or companies. They then 'tweet' under that name and the people/companies being impersonated fear harm to their image. Twitter believes their current Terms of Service protect them, but are about to go one step further. They plan to verify select accounts are controlled by who they claim to be. The specifics are not clear, but if they can pull it off efficiently it will bolster the credibility of the verified accounts. Unfortunately, it may also reduce the credibility of the people who are not considered important enough to be verified or are lower on the verification list while they are waiting their turn.
