Joe Biden - “Just fire the shotgun through the door”

Do I even need to comment...

Video embedded below.

"Because the advice he offered last week to simply “fire two blasts” outside the house wasn’t recklessly bogus enough, here’s the vice president expounding even further on his recommendations for in-home self-defense in an in-depth interview with Field & Stream on Monday (h/t Washington Examiner):

F&S: What about the other uses, for self-defense and target practice?

V.P. BIDEN: Well, the way in which we measure it is—I think most scholars would say—is that as long as you have a weapon sufficient to be able to provide your self-defense. I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, “Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there’s the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself.”

I said, “Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.” Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semiautomatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that’s true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you. Now, granted, you can come back and say, “Well, a machine gun could do a better job of protecting me.” No one’s arguing we should make machine guns legal.
Honesty, did no one bother to inform the vice president, after his first round of similarly awful advice, that just blasting away on the back porch will 1) reveal your position, 2) leave you effectively disarmed, and 3) possibly get you into some legal trouble?

Biden: 'Buy a Shotgun! Buy a Shotgun!'

Apparently, Democrats are ok with gun violence as long as you are using the right type of firearm. Shotguns are useful, but perhaps Biden should ask the police why they carry both a shotgun and a rifle in their cars. If the bad guy is in close proximity to good guys, using a shotgun may not be the best idea...

White House Announces Obama Made no Calls And Took no Action During Benghazi Attack

This ship is moving but no one is at the helm...

http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2013/02/15/confirmed-obama-made-no-calls-took-no-action-during-benghazi-attack

"Yesterday, the White House finally shed some light on this question by releasing a letter describing what President Obama was not doing as American diplomats’ lives hung in the balance:

President Obama didn’t make any phone calls the night of the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the White House said in a letter to Congress released Thursday. “During the entire attack, the president of the United States never picked up the phone to put the weight of his office in the mix,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, who had held up Mr. Obama’s defense secretary nominee to force the information to be released. Mr. Graham said that if Mr. Obama had picked up the phone, at least two of the Americans killed in the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi might still be alive because he might have been able to push U.S. aid to get to the scene faster. The White House has said Mr. Obama was kept up to date on the attack by his staff, though after being alerted to the attack in a pre-scheduled afternoon meeting he never spoke again with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin E. Dempsey or then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
And there’s this, which (a) re-confirms what we’ve known for some time, and (b) begs the question of why the administration approved false talking points for public consumption:

Mr. Panetta told Congress last week that he knew immediately the attacks were a terrorist assault, though the White House downplayed that notion in the first five days after the attack.
Who conceived of the false talking points and why were they employed at all, let alone for days? Why were requests for security upgrades repeatedly turned down, especially since our intelligence knew of at least ten active jihadi groups operating in Benghazi at the time? If the Commander-in-Chief wasn’t in contact with his top people throughout the raid, and if he wasn’t ordering the full might of the United States military into motion to protect the lives of our diplomats (which he’s claimed is his “number one” priority), what was he doing over those eight hours? Our only clue is a campaign rally in Las Vegas the next day, which the president attended as scheduled — having blown off another daily intelligence briefing, which was a habitual occurrence. That these questions have not been sufficiently answered — or even asked, in some cases — is less a product of masterful White House stonewalling as it is a profoundly vexing indictment of our media.

Meet The “Cuomo” A Standard 30 Round Printed Magazine For an AR-15

30 rounds is standard for the AR-15, not a 'High Capacity' as some Democrat gun grabbers want you to believe. This is part of their effort to make a fully printable firearm.

Video embedded below.

"In response to the upsurge in gun violence, politicians are proposing restrictions on the number of bullets that handgun and rifle magazines can hold. And just as they do, new printing technology blows holes right through that debate. The 3-D printing gunsmiths at Defense Distributed are about to release blueprints for an upgraded magazine that won’t degrade even after you fire hundreds of rounds.

Meet the “Cuomo.” It’s a new printed magazine for your AR-15 rifle, soon to be available for download, and it holds 30 bullets. Upgrading an earlier design that didn’t hold up particularly well after extended use, it’s an unsubtle rejoinder to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently signed a magazine-restriction law limiting mags to seven rounds. Defense Distributed is basically saying that if you’re not going to be allowed to buy larger magazines in the near future, you can print them yourself — if, that is, 3-D printed weapons don’t fall into legislators’ own crosshairs.

In recent tests at a gun range near Austin, Texas, Defense Distributed fired a total of 342 rounds using the magazine with no issues, according to the group’s founder, Cody Wilson. The group fired 227 of those rounds using full automatic fire, while swapping out the barrels on the rifle to keep them cool. The group also uploaded a promotional video, seen above, demonstrating a portion of the test.

Pope Benedict XVI Announces His Upcoming Retirement

He will be the first Pope in 600 years to resign. He sites failing health and there is no good reason to doubt him. That will not stop the conspiracy theories though. Of course, some times those theories are more than just theories.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324880504578297543433266804.html

"Pope Benedict XVI will become the first pontiff in six centuries to resign, marking the end of a transitional papacy that focused more on theological and internal renewal and less on the broader challenges that face the Roman Catholic church at the start of its 21st century of existence.

The pope's surprise announcement paves the way for a successor who will confront anew the task of rebuilding the church's foundations in an increasingly secular and skeptical West while continuing to spread its roots in the rapidly growing emerging world.

The 85-year-old pope, who before his 2005 election was Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, announced the decision to step down in a speech in Latin Monday to a small group of cardinals, saying he no longer had the vitality to perform his duties. Only two top Vatican cardinals were informed beforehand.

A Very Brief Affair

A brief affair

"Who Are The Police At War With?"

Resistance to NY's new ideotic gun control laws.

Video embedded below.

"It's easier to get another job than it is another life. I don't regret the decision."

A man has a gun pulled on him, pulls his own legaly carried weapon to sucsessfully protect himself (without even needing to fire upon the robber), and then is given a pink slip for his efforts. I respect a companies right to set the policy for their employes, but this sends the wrong message.

http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2013/01/18/johnstown-man-chases-off-robber-loses-job-for-having-gun.html

"Tom Green has had a concealed carry permit for a year-and-a-half, and he said he hoped he would never have to draw his weapon.

But recently, Green he was forced to while working the overnight shift at the Johnstown Duke and Duchess convenience store on November 13.

Security cameras were rolling as a man wearing all black, with stockings over his face, walked in.

“He said ‘Give me all your stuff,’” said Green. “Then he said ‘I ain’t playing.’ And then stuck his hand under the hoodie he was wearing.”

That indicated to Green that the man had a gun.

“It was a split second to make a decision on whether to protect myself or not. i just did what i felt like i had to do,” said Green.

He drew his weapon and forced the robber from the store.

“I was really afraid he was going to harm me in some way,” added Green.

Two days after the shock of being held up and having to draw his weapon in his own defense, Green got another shock, when he was fired.

He was told it was a violation of company policy to carry weapons on the premises.
...
He admits he knew the policy, but said in a job that makes you a target, he felt the need for protection.

“If they're not going to allow you to defend yourself, then they should provide some security,” added Green.

Despite the loss of his job, he says he'd do the same thing again.

"It's easier to get another job than it is another life. I don't regret the decision."

How to subtly transform a classic song by changing the scale

Video embedded below.

"To cleanse the palate, if this isn’t the next big thing in sampling, it should be. Instead of lifting a riff from a classic track to put in a new song, the mastermind behind this tweaked the classic until it is the new song by changing the scale from minor to major. The first time you listen to it, it’ll sound flat and jarring, which is understandable: Your mental template of how this song goes, burned in after a thousand radio listens over the last 20 years, will resist. So listen to it twice if you can spare the time, and maybe a few times more than that. I started off “meh” and, after maybe the fourth play, decided it was fantastic. The change in emotional tone from the shift in scale is subtle but unmistakable. And the mandolin, which always sounded tinny and too precious in the original, really pops in this one. I never much liked “Losing My Religion” but I like this. A lot."

Suicide attack on US embassy in Ankara (Turkey) kills two

http://hotair.com/archives/2013/02/01/breaking-suicide-attack-on-us-embassy-in-ankara-kills-two-security-guards

"An unknown group targeted the US embassy in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, with an explosive device. At least two security guards were killed in the explosion and an unknown number of people wounded:

A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at the entrance of the U.S. Embassy in the Turkish capital on Friday and at least two people are dead, a police official said.

An Associated Press journalist saw a body in the street in front of an embassy side entrance. The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the entrance of the visa section of the embassy.

Several ambulances were dispatched to the area. An AP journalist saw at least one woman who appeared to be seriously injured being carried into an ambulance.

Private NTV television said two security guards at the entrance were killed.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, and it may not be clear yet exactly what the motive is. Turkey has active terrorist groups both for radical Islam and Kurdish autonomy, although it’s probably not likely that the latter would target the US.

Armed Guard Ends School Shooting

Who would of thought a good guy with a gun would be an effective way to stop a bad guy with a gun...

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/01/31/armed-guard-stops-school-shooter-after-he-opened-fire-at-atlanta-middle-school

"A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.

Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown about 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said.

The wounded boy was taken “alert, conscious and breathing” to Grady Memorial Hospital, said police spokesman Carlos Campos. Grady Heath System Spokeswoman Denise Simpson said the teen had been discharged from the hospital Thursday night. Campos said charges against the shooter were pending.

Unemployment Rate Increases to 7.9%

Overall, this news is rather flat; which given our current holding pattern is bad news for everyone.

http://hotair.com/archives/2013/02/01/january-jobs-report-unemployment-rises-to-7-9-157k-jobs-added

"The January jobs report largely met the low expectations of the market today. The US economy added a net 157,000 jobs, but the unemployment rate went up by a tenth of a point to 7.9%:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 157,000 in January, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 7.9 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Retail trade, construction, health care, and wholesale trade added jobs over the month.

Household Survey Data

The number of unemployed persons, at 12.3 million, was little changed in January. The unemployment rate was 7.9 percent and has been at or near that level since September 2012. (See table A-1.) (See the note and tables B and C for information about annual population adjustments to the household survey estimates.)

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (7.3 percent), adult women (7.3 percent), teenagers (23.4 percent), whites (7.0 percent), blacks (13.8 percent), and Hispanics (9.7 percent) showed little or no change in January. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.5 percent (not seasonally adjusted), little changed from a year earlier. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

In January, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was about unchanged at 4.7 million and accounted for 38.1 percent of the unemployed. (See table A-12.)
The broader U-6 measure of unemployment remained unchanged at 14.4%. That measure, which includes underemployed and discouraged workers left out of the more well-known U-3 unemployment rate, is still above the 14.2% rate of January 2009, when Barack Obama took office. One year ago, it was 15.1%. During the last expansion, it reached a low of 8.0% in 2006 and 2007.

Workforce measures remains steady in January. The civilian-population percentage ratio was unchanged from December’s 63.6%, one-tenth of a point above the 31-year low set in August 2012. The same is true for the employment-population ratio, which stayed at 58.6%, just two-tenths below the generational low of 58.4% also set in August 2012.

IRS - Cheapest Obamacare Plan Will Be $20,000 Per Family

Remember when we were promised that it would by $2k? That, of course, was before the bill was passed and the election ended. Now the truth can finally be spoken.

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/irs-cheapest-obamacare-plan-will-be-20000-family

"In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.

Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.

The IRS's assumption that the cheapest plan for a family will cost $20,000 per year is found in examples the IRS gives to help people understand how to calculate the penalty they will need to pay the government if they do not buy a mandated health plan.

The examples point to families of four and families of five, both of which the IRS expects in its assumptions to pay a minimum of $20,000 per year for a bronze plan.

“The annual national average bronze plan premium for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) is $20,000,” the regulation says.

Bronze will be the lowest tier health-insurance plan available under Obamacare--after Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Under the law, the penalty for not buying health insurance is supposed to be capped at either the annual average Bronze premium, 2.5 percent of taxable income, or $2,085.00 per family in 2016.
