670+ Million People in India Are Without Power

That is about one-tenth of the global population without electricity...

http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/07/31/more-than-670-million-people-without-power-as-india-suffers-second-major-blackout

"Half of India’s 1.2 billion people were without power on Tuesday as the grids covering a dozen states broke down, the second major blackout in as many days and an embarrassment for the government as it struggles to revive economic growth.

Stretching from Assam, near China, to the Himalayas and the deserts of Rajasthan, the power cut was the worst to hit India in more than a decade.
...
More than a dozen states with a total population of 670 million people were without power, with the lights out even at major hospitals in Kolkata.

Shinde blamed the system collapse on some states drawing more than their share of electricity from the overstretched grid. Asia’s third-largest economy suffers a peak-hour power deficit of about 10 percent, dragging on economic growth.

North Dakota Democrats Mock Female Republican’s Breasts

If the 'D' and the 'R' were reversed this would be a major story and we would be having a 'national conversation' about it. Since this does not fit the false narrative, do not hold your breath waiting for this to get major exposure in the Main Stream Media.

http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/north-dakota-democrats-mock-female-republicans-breats

"But Democrats don’t exactly have their hands clean when it comes to insulting women. First there was the ad attacking Rick Berg’s mother. Now Jim Fuglie, the former Executive Director of the North Dakota Democrat party, has posted this bit of ugliness alluding to supposed rumors about Republican candidate for Superintendent of Public Schools Kirsten Baesler’s breasts.
...
That’s got to be one of the sleaziest things I’ve ever seen written about a North Dakota political candidate, Democrat or Republican.

You could dismiss this as nothing more than the ill-advised ranting of a former leader of the state Democrat party. But this post was also published on a blog managed by Chad Nodland, currently representing North Dakota Democrats on the Democrat National Committee.

Bloomberg Pushing NYC Hospitals to Hide Baby Formula And Push Breast-Feeding

Looks like Bloomberg really wants that moniker of 'nanny-stater'. Is there any facet of your life that he thinks should not be any of the government's business. If you needed another reason to appose ObamaCare, wait until this 'suggestions' become policy and then mandatory.

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/mayor_knows_breast_WqU1iYRQvwbEkDuvn0vb1H

"Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.
...
Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

Federal Government Debt Exceeds One-Trillion-Dollars For Fifth Straight Fiscal Year

The madness has to stop. The madness will stop. The only question is if we can muster the political will (read, vote in fiscal conservatives) in time to put the breaks on ourselves or if we are going to slam into the fiscal wall and have the change forced upon us.

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/federal-governments-debt-jumps-more-1t-5th-straight-fiscal-year

"By the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2012, the new debt accumulated in this fiscal year by the federal government had already exceeded $1 trillion, making this fiscal year the fifth straight in which the federal government has increased its debt by more than a trillion dollars, according to official debt numbers published by the U.S. Treasury.

Prior to fiscal 2008, the federal government had never increased its debt by as much as $1 trillion in a single fiscal year. From fiscal 2008 onward, however, the federal government has increased its debt by at least $1 trillion each and every fiscal year.

The federal fiscal year begins on Oct. 1 and ends on Sept. 30. At the close of business on Sept. 30, 2011—the last day of fiscal 2011—the total debt of the federal government was $14,790,340,328,557.15. By June 29, the last business day of the third quarter of fiscal 2012, that debt had grown to $15,856,367,214,324.44—an increase for this fiscal year of $1,066,026,885,767.29.

"Environmentalists have pushed to abolish traditional incandescent light bulbs, in order to reduce the amount of electricity needed to light up our homes.

However, a small but vocal minority has insisted that the curlicue-shaped compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) pose a threat to human health.

Now, a group of scientists at Stony Brook University has proven that CFLs do emit ultraviolet (UV) light rays that can harm human skin cells.

FAA Has Authorized 106 Government ‘Entities’ to Fly Domestic Drones

This is not necessarily a bad thing as a lot of people fear. As with most, it is the way something is used and not the tool itself that can be troublesome. There is certainly the potential for a lot of problems (think privacy), but there are many benefits as well (think search and rescue and infrastructure observation/maintenance).

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/faa-has-authorized-106-government-entities-fly-domestic-drones

"Since Jan. 1 of this year, according to congressional testimony presented Thursday by the Government Accountability Office, the Federal Aviation Administration has authorized 106 federal, state and local government “entities” to fly “unmanned aircraft systems,” also known as drones, within U.S. airspace.

“We are now on the edge of a new horizon: using unmanned aerial systems within the homeland,” House Homeland Security Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Michael McCaul (R.-Texas) said as he introduced the testimony.

“Currently,” said McCaul, “there are about 200 active Certificates of Authorization issued by the Federal Aviation Administration to over 100 different entities, such as law enforcement departments and academic institutions, to fly drones domestically.”

"Twelve people were killed and 59 were injured in Aurora, Colo., during a sold-out midnight premier of the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" when 24-year-old James Holmes unloaded four weapons' full of ammunition into the unsuspecting crowd.
The number of casualties makes the incident the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Holmes, a graduate student at a nearby college with a clean arrest record, entered the movie auditorium wearing a ballistics helmet, bullet-proof vest, bullet-proof leggings, gas mask and gloves. He detonated multiple smoke bombs, and then began firing at viewers in the sold-out auditorium, police said today.

Obama Ad Accuses Romney of Misquoting Obama ... Then Proves it was an Accurate Quote

At the 10 second mark, the ad shows what Romney said. It then accuses Romney of lying and misquoting Obama. At the 35 second mark, the clip shows what Obama said ... which is exactly what Romney said Obama said.

Video embedded below.

"Nevertheless, the Obama campaign, in the ad, says it's not true. "The only problem?," the ad text reads. "That's not what he said." It then turns to Obama, from the same Roanoke campaign speech, who said, "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life."

Which is true. Obama did say that. But he also said the line that Romney says he said-- "If you’ve got a business --you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen."

And, in fact, later in the ad the Obama campaign actually plays the clip that Romney quotes of Obama, at about :40 second spot.

"Mitt Romney will say anything," the ad concludes. It turns out, he'll even say Obama's words when quoting him.

Obama - "If You’ve Been Successful, You Didn’t Get There On Your Own"

If he had stopped their, he probably would have been ok. Most people, though certainly not all, had a supportive spouse or parent they leaned on to help them on their way. Obama did not stop there. Obama insinuated, if not outright said, that the only reason people are successful is because they are lucky and because the government. Hard work, intelligence and perseverance, apparently irrelevant. This line of attack did not work for Elizabeth Warren, and could easily become the 'spread the wealth around' gaffe in the run up to the election.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/07/16/obama-if-youve-been-successful-you-didnt-get-there-on-your-own

"In a Friday speech in Roanoke, Virginia, President Obama attacked the idea that the wealthy get that way on their own. From the Real Clear Politics partial transcript:

[L]ook, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

Jazz Shaw tagged this part of the speech in a post on Saturday, and noted that President Obama is taking this part of his speech almost directly from the mouth of Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.
...
This is a fantastic campaign line. Or, rather, it should have been, but as Jazz pointed out it fell down around Warren’s ears. Perhaps the rhetoric couldn’t stand up against the facts, such as the following:

Americans Will Work Six and a Half Months to Pay Cost of Government in 2012

How can anyone think the government is not to big?

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/americans-will-work-more-6-months-pay-cost-govt-2012

"This year, Americans have to work until July 15 to pay for the burden of government, more than six months.

In a new report, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) has calculated that Americans will spend a total of 197 days toiling to pay for the cost of government.

"Cost of Government Day is the date of the calendar year on which the average American worker has earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of the spending and regulatory burden imposed by government at the federal, state and local levels," reads the report.

The report, Cost of Government Day, shows that Americans will work 88 days to pay for federal spending; 40 days for state and local spending; and 69 days for total regulatory costs.

83 percent of doctors have considered quitting over Obamacare Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/09/report-83-percent-of-doctors-have-consider

That is a crazy number. Granted 'considered' does not necessarily mean they will, but we are already starting to face a doctor shortfall issue. We need more, not less.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/09/report-83-percent-of-doctors-have-considered-quitting-over-obamacare

"Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.

Even if doctors do not quit their jobs over the ruling, America will face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors by 2020. The new health care law increases demand for physicians by expanding insurance coverage. This change will exacerbate the current shortage as more Americans live past 65.

By 2025 the shortage will balloon to over 130,000, Len Marquez, the director of government relations at the American Association of Medical Colleges, told The Daily Caller.

Unemployment Rate Dropped in Every State That Elected a Republican Governor in 2010

Not just dropped mind you, but dropped 50% more than the national average. The 'Blue State Model' does not work. Lower spending, reduce taxes, and jobs will follow.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/07/07/Unemployment-Rate-Dropped-In-Every-State-That-Elected-A-Republican-Gov-In-2010

"In 2010, influenced by the Tea Party and its focus on fiscal issues, 17 states elected Republican governors. And, according to an Examiner.com analysis, every one of those states saw a drop in their unemployment rates since January of 2011. Furthermore, the average drop in the unemployment rate in these states was 1.35%, compared to the national decline of .9%, which means, according to the analysis, that the job market in these Republican states is improving 50% faster than the national rate."

Obama’s Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Hails Chinese Authoritarian System

Someone should tell LaHood that the gridlock is the design, not a flaw or untended consequence. When is comes to what is necessary, we can get things done in a hurry. when it comes to sinking untold billions into a 'high speed rail' system that is outdated and unnecessary before the plans are even draw up, it is good it is difficult to pull the trigger.

http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/07/05/obama_s_transportation_secretary_hails_chinese_infrastructure

"Echoing the laments of pundits like Thomas Friedman of the New York Times, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood argued Saturday that China outpaces the United States in building major transportation infrastructure like high-speed rail because of its authoritarian system and because the Chinese don't have the Republican Party holding up progress.

"The Chinese are more successful [in building infrastructure] because in their country, only three people make the decision. In our country, 3,000 people do, 3 million," LaHood said in a short interview with The Cable on the sidelines of the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival on June 30. "In a country where only three people make the decision, they can decide where to put their rail line, get the money, and do it. We don't do it that way in America."

LaHood said that despite this, democracy is still preferable. "We have the best system of government anywhere on the planet. It is the best. Because the people have their say," he said.

During his conference session at the festival, LaHood blamed Republicans in Congress, especially the Tea Party freshman class elected in 2010, for the relative lack of progress in moving forward with high-speed rail even though the administration has obligated more than $11 billion to the effort."

Unemployment Rates Holds at 8.2%

Job growth is better then job loss, but this growth level is well below what is needed to keep unemployment constant based on population growth.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/07/06/jobs-report-80k-jobs-added-8-2-jobless-rate

"The jobs report for June shows another gloomy month in the US economy. Job growth amounted to a disappointing 80,000, below analyst expectations of 90-100K, while the jobless rate remained the same at 8.2%:

Nonfarm payroll employment continued to edge up in June (+80,000), and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Professional and business services added jobs, and employment in other major industries changed little over the month. …

In June, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) was essentially unchanged at 5.4 million. These individuals
accounted for 41.9 percent of the unemployed. (See table A-12.)

Both the civilian labor force participation rate and the employment-population ratio were unchanged in June at 63.8 and 58.6 percent,
respectively. (See table A-1.)

This is only a bare improvement over last month’s report, with its addition of 77,000, an upward revision from the report a month ago, which had May at 69,000. The average monthly job growth has been 75,000 over the last three months — when we need 125K-150K to keep up with population growth. It’s a measure that shows us going backwards … again.

The bad news gets even worse when looking at combined unemployment and underemployment, as measured by U-6. That measure had dropped to a years-long low in March and April of 14.5%, but now has ticked upward two months in a row, and is back to 14.9%. Joblessness among African-Americans jumped by 184,000 and the rate shot up from 13.6% to 14.4%, the highest it has been since December 2011.

Happy Fourth of July

It worth mentioning that even with America in a slump, we are still the last best hope of man. While there are a few reasons for American Exceptionalism, without men and woman manning the wall keeping those who would do us harm at bay, the American Experiment would have never gotten off the ground. Take some time to reflect on the men who went toe to toe with the most powerful fighting force the world had ever known and birthed our great nation, and to all those who have taken up the banner since.

Also, if for some reason you have yet to read the Declaration of Independence, take a few minutes and read it now. Even if you have, take some time and read it again.

Record 8,733,461 Workers Now on Federal Disability

Not a good record to break...

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/8733461-workers-federal-disability-exceed-population-new-york-city

"There has been a dramatic shrinkage in the United States over the past 20 years in the number of workers actually employed and earning paychecks per worker who is not employed and is taking federal disability insurance payments.

In June 1992, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 118,419,000 people employed in the United States, and, according to the Social Security Administration, there were 3,334,333 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled about 1 person taking disability payments for each 35.5 people actually working.

When President Barack Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, there were 142,187,000 people employed and 7,442,377 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled about 1 person taking disability payments for each 19.1 people actually working.

In May of this year, there were 142,287,000 people employed, and 8,707,185 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled 1 worker taking disability payments for each 16.3 people working.

The federal disability payments made to the record 8,733,461 workers in June averaged $1,111.42.
