Biden - "Assault Weapons ban and the limitation on the size of magazines, let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning"
We know what you are trying to do, you are not very subtle...

"Vice President Joe Biden on a conference call with "Mayors Against Illegal Guns:"
"And lastly, but not least, the Assault Weapons ban and the limitation on the size of magazines, let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning. We believe that weapons of war have no place on our streets. That’s the message that the retired admirals and generals have spoken to us about. The comment one of them used was: if you want to learn how to use a semi-automatic weapon, join the United States military, but these are weapons of war, and we believe there’s no rational reason why someone would need a clip that can hold fifteen, twenty, thirty, one-hundred bullets, one-hundred rounds. We have to do more and we will do more.""

Cold Dead Hand with Jim Carrey
I am always amused when people poison the well in the name of advancing the discussion. Carrey shows his ignorance, and just how far his carrier has fallen, in what is a disappointingly not-funny video. Not to mention, the cowardliness of going after someone who is dead an can not defend themselves using cheap toilet humor. It really is just sad...

Mike Bloomberg: “I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom”
When Bloomberg lets me choose which freedoms he is entitled to, I will think about letting him tell me what freedoms I can have.
http://www.redstate.com/2013/03/25/mike-bloomberg-i-do-think-there-are-certain-times-we-should-infringe-on-your-freedom
"I would say that Mike Bloomberg has put his foot in his mouth but that would imply that he is even slightly concerned about his remark or meant it in any other way than it sounds.
“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban — just shot down by the courts — and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.
Make special note of Bloomberg’s use of “we” and “you.” “We” is he and the other elites, unencumbered by such infringements since they are the ones that make the rules, not the ones that live by them.
There’s a deep philosophical problem in America and Mike Bloomberg embodies it. So many people will look at this quote and say “Well it’s true! There are times! You murder someone, you go to jail right? That’s taking your freedom!”
Watch for those arguments because they are coming and they miss the point entirely.
When a guy like Bloomberg says “we should infringe on your freedom,” he’s not talking about due process or constitutional limitations. He’s talking exactly about what we fought against in the American Revolution. He’s talking about tyranny. The ability for elites to make decisions for the rest of us that takes our freedom away solely because the wealthy few living in their ivory towers deemed it necessary for the “greater good.”"

Cyprus banks to remain shut Tuesday and Wednesday: government source
This is not going to stop a run on the banks. Even if the government announced, 'never mind, jut kidding, we would never take your deposits', you would still be a fool to leave any money in that banking system. The only thing this might do is slow it down.

Cyprus Government 'Tax' (Steal) From Depositors Accounts
In political terms it was a tax. In economic terms it was a hair-cut. In real life if you have over 100k euros in the bank you just lost 9.9% of it, with everyone else losing 6.75%.
This is one of the most bone-headed moves I could imagine. Unless they went into this thinking, 'how can we cause a bank run and make sure no one ever puts money into our banking system', they made an absurd mistake. If you are a banker in Switzerland or the Caiman Islands, this coming week could be the busiest of your life...
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/17/us-cyprus-parliament-idUSBRE92G03I20130317
"Cyprus was working on a last-minute proposal to soften the impact on smaller savers of a bank deposit levy after a parliamentary vote on the measure central to a bailout was postponed until Monday, a government source said.
In a radical departure from previous aid packages, euro zone finance ministers want Cyprus savers to forfeit a portion of their deposits in return for a 10 billion euro ($13 billion) bailout for the island, which has been financially crippled by its exposure to neighboring Greece.
The decision, announced on Saturday morning, stunned Cypriots and caused a run on cash points, most of which were depleted within hours. Electronic transfers were stopped.
The originally proposed levies on deposits are 9.9 percent for those exceeding 100,000 euros and 6.7 percent on anything below that.
The Cypriot government on Sunday discussed with lenders the possibility of changing the levy to 3.0 percent for deposits below 100,000 euros, and to 12.5 percent for above that sum, a source close to the consultations told Reuters on condition of anonymity."

Judge Blocks Bloomberg's Soda Ban
A victory for freedom.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/mayor_bloomberg_believes_themselves_enfmR96eplT88TyLQInuoI
"A state judge today put a cork in City Hall's plans to ban Big Apple restaurants and other venues from selling large sugary drinks -- a bubble-bursting defeat for Mayor Bloomberg, who has made public health a cornerstone of his tenure.
...
Judge Tingling said Bloomberg and the Board of Health overstepped their bounds, to enforce rules that should be established by the legislative bodies.
“The rule would not only violate the separation of powers doctrine, it would eviscerate it,” Tingling wrote. “Such an evisceration has the potential to be more troubling than sugar sweetened drinks.”
Tingling sided with a coalition of store keepers, unions, theater owners and beverage sellers who have been fighting Bloomberg’s ban that was set to go into effect tomorrow.
“It is arbitrary and capricious because it applies to some but not all food establishments in the city, it excludes other beverages that have significantly higher concentrations of sugar sweeteners and/or calories on suspect grounds, and the loopholes inherent in the rule, including but not limited to no limitations on refills, defeat and/or serve to gut the purpose of the rule,” Tingling wrote."

"Saber rattling rose to new levels Monday on the Korean Peninsula as Pyongyang officials "scrapped" the armistice credited for nearly 60 years of uneasy peace and then failed to answer a hotline phone. "The Korean Armistice Agreement is to be scrapped completely just from today," said a spokesman for the North Korean military -- the Korean People's Army Supreme Command -- according to Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party."

Arrogant CO Democrat Scolds Rape Survivor at Gun Ban Hearing - "Statistics Weren’t On Your Side"
Video embedded below.
"Democrats like Hudak would prefer that you be a victim, even of rape, than you have the ability and means to defend yourself.
Hudak is the third Colorado Democrat to make insane remarks regarding firearms and rape in the past few weeks. In February, state Sen. Paul Rosenthal argued that women should use the “buddy system” or judo to defend themselves from rape. Judo is a fine idea, but Amanda Collins’ experience suggests that martial arts may not be enough. A day before that, state Rep. Joe Salazar argued that women should rely on whistles and call boxes if they’re under attack from a rapist. Salazar further suggested that women should not be trusted with a firearm, because they might shoot even if they are not under attack.
Three Democrats have now loosed misogynistic remarks about rape. Two men, one woman, but all Democrats. Who’s waging a war on women and their right to defend themselves?"

How My Legs Give Me Super Powers
This clip is a few years old, and we are getting much closer to what would have been seen in the past as paradoxical; being 'disabled' (that is, missing a limb) could mean that you are 'super-abled' (that is, have a prosthetic which gives you super-human abilities). It really is a testament to how far medical science has advanced.

California woman dies after nurse refuses to perform CPR
How a human being can stand by and watch someone die without even trying to help is a horror in itself, but the person standing by was a nurse, a NURSE! The fact that someone should have to ask "Is there anybody that's willing to help this lady and not let her die?" is only surpassed in fright by the answer "Not at this time".

In Medical First, a Baby With H.I.V. Is Deemed Cured
If confirmed, this would represent a huge medical breakthrough.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/04/health/for-first-time-baby-cured-of-hiv-doctors-say.html
"Doctors announced on Sunday that a baby had been cured of an H.I.V. infection for the first time, a startling development that could change how infected newborns are treated and sharply reduce the number of children living with the virus that causes AIDS.
Related
The baby, born in rural Mississippi, was treated aggressively with antiretroviral drugs starting around 30 hours after birth, something that is not usually done. If further study shows this works in other babies, it will almost certainly be recommended globally. The United Nations estimates that 330,000 babies were newly infected in 2011, the most recent year for which there is data, and that more than three million children globally are living with H.I.V.
If the report is confirmed, the child born in Mississippi would be only the second well-documented case of a cure in the world. That could give a lift to research aimed at a cure, something that only a few years ago was thought to be virtually impossible, though some experts said the findings in the baby would probably not be relevant to adults.
The first person cured was Timothy Brown, known as the Berlin patient, a middle-aged man with leukemia who received a bone-marrow transplant from a donor genetically resistant to H.I.V. infection."

How the Laws of Physics Constrain Our Sustainable Energy Options
Some interesting back of the envelope calculations. One thing it does not, because it can not, take into account is innovations. You can get more power out of smaller areas because of increased efficiencies. More efficient solar powers, higher energy bio-diesel (selectively bread or bio-engineered) plants, and their equivalents across the board will shrink the footprint per unit energy.
What these calculations may prove/show is that we are not at a stage technologically where a full conversion to renewables is feasible or advisable. Fortunately, we are not at a point where a radical overhaul is required.
Also not mentioned but of potentially massive import, Thermal Depolymerization.
