Fire David Letterman Rally (NYC)

Despite Letterman's second attempt at an apology (http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/06/letterman-readdresses-palin.html), which did not include the words "I was wrong"(http://www.gaypatriot.net/2009/06/16/three-words-missing-from-david-lettermans-second-apology), the 'Fire Letterman Rally' took place today as scheduled. The website FireDavidLetterman.com has been in the forefront of the boycott movement which is having some success.

For her part, Sarah Palin did accept the apology. It seemed she also added a little (well deserved?) 'dig'.

"Of course it's accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."

Mini round up of other bloggers angry at Letterman over this http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/80201.

As for the rally; both the protesters and the counter protesters appear to be genuine Grassroots (Berman Post: Grassroots vs Astroturf - How to Tell The Movements Apart). It was far from impressive though. No more than 40 protesters turned out, and it was probobly closer to 30. There were about a half-dozen counter protesters that stuck around for any length of time, and more then a dozen other 'walk-by' agitators. Some of the counter protesters were lighthearted like the one condemning A-Rod, while others were really out there like the one calling Palin a nazi.

The media was out in force; Fox News, Fox 5, Pix 11, Sirus, Air America, 1010 wins, MTV news, ABC 7, Inside Edition, MSNBC / NBC Universal, and another 15 or 20 other reporter/journalist types. The rally itself turned more into a free for all debate for much of the beginning and middle, but by the end they did get some chants in. It appeared that one of Letterman's staff was getting some video of the scene from a window a few stories up. You may recognize John Ziegler at the podium.

As usual, some of the better pictures are included below. A link to the rest of the photo album will be under that. Please link to this page (not the photo album) if you wish to use this post or show your readers the pictures (Thanks in advanced).

Video first. The first clip is a pan shot while the second is four recordings combined with the protesters chanting.

Now for the pictures.

These are of the protesters:

These are of the counter protesters (lighthearted first, trust me when I say you will be able to tell when it shifts over):

Last but not least, Letterman's eye in the 'sky':
