Prayer Vigil For The Fallen Iranian Protesters (NYC)

There was a Prayer Vigil for the fallen Iranian protesters. From their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=94205941563): "Recent events in Iran have led to tragedy. At least 7 peaceful protesters have been confirmed dead from bullet wounds. These individuals were simply participating in a non-violent march for their basic democratic rights. We invite all those who want to pay respects for the fallen--and show solidarity with the people of Iran--to join us in a traditional Islamic Friday Prayer.

Pray. Stand in silence. Hold Flowers. All expressions of support are Welcome.
".

No part of the ceremony was in English as the prayer vigil was entirely in Farsi or Arabic, not sure which. Except for the chants of "Allah Akbar" and a word that sounded a lot like 'Democracy' or 'Democratic', I can not tell you what was actually said. Based on the Facebook page, signs, ribbons, and flowers, safe money is that it was exactly what they said it would be. That is a prayer vigil for the murdered Iranian protesters and to stand in solidarity with the people marching on.

It was held on the corner of 3rd ave and 40th street (NYC) which they say is outside the Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations.

I believe it was a grassroots protest despite a few people handing out signs and ribbons (Berman Post: Grassroots vs Astroturf - How to Tell The Movements Apart). There were maybe 50 people there. Not as many as the 300 last Sunday afternoon (Berman Post: Iranian Election Fraud Protest (NYC)) or the 500 last Wednesday (Berman Post: Iranian Election Fraud Protest at Union Square (NYC)), but not a bad turnout for a Friday afternoon with short notice.

As usual, some of the better pictures are included below. A link to the rest of the photo album will be under that. Please link to this page (not the photo album) if you wish to use this post or show your readers the pictures (Thanks in advanced).

Video first. It is a compilation of all the clips.
