Google Working on a Microblogging Search Engine?

Signs suggest Google is getting close to releasing a microblogging search engine. Nothing I have come across does a very good job at it now, and it is something that is needed. Google is a great search engine, but like the rest is fairly poor if you are looking for real time information. If they can pull it off it will become a great resource.
