Anti-Israel Protest inTime Square NYC

There was a large anti-Israel protest in Time Square (NYC) today. I went to take some pictures and video of the event. After handing around for a while and doing just that, a cop thought that I was taking pictures in a "provocative manner" and booted me from the event. It is still unclear to me exactly how taking pictures of people holding up signs in my direction is "provocative", but that is what the cop said before he pushed me down a street and telling me to walk away. Anyways, below are some of my favorite pictures and the videos I took. There were a few brave pro-Israel supporters that showed up. I was told another pro-Israel rally was taking place that was larger then the anti-Israel rally, but I did not go to it. Most of the pictures (obviously) are of the anti-Israel protesters. As you will soon see, subtlety is not their strong suit. Neither is a comprehensive understanding of the situation, but that is for another day.

You can find all the pictures taken (that came out) at http://picasaweb.google.com/BermanPost.com/1112009AntiIsraelProtest If anyone reads Arabic, there are some signs that need translating there. Any help would be appreciated, as I am interested to know what they say.

A few take away points/questions. Does anyone think the kids in the picture have any real concept of what is going on? When they say "from the river to the sea Palestine will be free", do they expect Israel to just self destruct? What kind of peace can you have with a country you think should not exist? Lastly, when they chant "Israel out of the Middle East", where do they expect it to go?

Feel free to use any of the pictures or videos you see here or at http://picasaweb.google.com/BermanPost.com/1112009AntiIsraelProtest as long as you source it and provide a link back here (and/or to the BermanPost.com).

  2. No. It is honestly not worth my time, plus I do not begrudge the officer. While I was not actually provoking anyone and did not need to be removed from the event (especially not with a push), I believe that he thought he was just doing his job. Plus, the micro-vent in the post was plenty soothing for me. From the reports later in the day he had good reason to worry. After the protest let out their was a mini wave of violence.
