Blagojevich's pick to replace Obama in the senate, Roland Burris, won in his court case regarding filling the seat. The court said that Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White's signature was not required. Jesse White had, and continues, to refuse to sign the document. The court's ruling says that the appointment of Burris is valid under the state law. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has refused to allow Burris to be seated. It is unclear how this ruling will effect his decision.

"Illinois' highest court Friday validated the appointment of Roland Burris to fill President-elect Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat, ruling that the Illinois secretary of state does not have to sign off on it.
The court's opinion states that "no further action is required by the Secretary of State or any other official to make the Governor's appointment of Roland Burris to the United States Senate valid under Illinois law.""
