Public Support For Sotomayor Slipping

More people now say that Sotomayor should not be confirmed then say she should be confirmed following the Supreme Court's Ricci ruling (Berman Post: Sotomayor's Ricci Decision Overruled by The Supreme Court).

"Rasmussen reports that the Supreme Court's reversal of Sonia Sotomayor's decision in the Ricci case has caused her public support to slip badly:

A heavily publicized U.S. Supreme Court reversal of an appeals court ruling by Judge Sonia Sotomayor has at least temporarily diminished public support for President Obama's first Supreme Court nominee.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, conducted on the two nights following the Supreme Court decision, finds that 37% now believe Sotomayor should be confirmed while 39% disagree.

I find that rather stunning--both that so many people apparently have followed news reports about the Ricci case, and that a plurality--for the moment, anyway--actually say she shouldn't be confirmed. My guess is that this isn't so much because she was reversed as because people found out about her ruling in Ricci."

John Hinderaker (the author of the quoted post) has an interesting thought. I would take it one step further. My guess is that this racial/gender narrative is starting to really sink in. How many 'wise female Latino' remarks, while opining that the death penalty is racist, and talking about her affirmative action status, as she appears to sanction punishing/discriminating against White people because of their skin color, does it take to get people nervous? Apparently we have reached the point where a plurality is now nervous.
