Favicons in Gmail

Some Gmail users are reporting favicons in their inbox. This could mean that Google is starting a general role out of favicons which for now seem to be restricted to NetFlix emails. This could be a useful tool to catch people's eyes for companies. It also has the potential to be a problem if spammers figure out a way to use the same images with their spam email.

I loaded up Gmail this morning expecting to see the usual assault on my inbox, when something new caught my eye. Apparently, Google has started inserting favicons, the little icons that many browsers put next to a website’s URL or bookmark, next to messages.

So far, I’m only seeing it for emails from Netflix."
