iTunes Will Not Shut Down

Copyright Royalty Board decided not to raise the royalties paid to publishers and songwriters as Apple feared they might. Had the board raise the price from just over nine cents, Apple said it would have made the iTunes store unprofitable and it would be forced to shut it down (Berman Post: iTunes May be Shut Down Over Royalty Dispute).

The board did sets the rate for ring tones at 24 cents. Previously, ring tone rates were negotiated. Apple did not immediately respond.
