House Passes Bailout 246-176

The House passed the bailout bill today; likely without a single member reading the bill. One can hardly call them lazy, the roughly 1,100 page bill was handed to them late Thursday and they voted today. Someone calculated a required read speed of 650ish words a minute, every minute, to have read the whole bill. If they are reading that fast for that long it is hard to believe they would really be comprehending it. In bills like these (and really like any), a single sentence or word shift can have a significant effect. The bill passed without a single Republican voting for it and seven Democrats voting no and one voting present. You can see the vote break down at http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll070.xml. I do not care if you support the bailout in the current form, but you can not tell me you approve of your representative voting on something without even reading it. Is that really to much to ask for?
