Most people know that first impressions are important. Increasingly, first impressions are made in the digital sphere. Even if not a first impression, the digital first impression can be influential. Do not think for one second that when you apply for a job your employer will not search for you online. That includes materials that you posted and materials that others posted about you. Your potential employer may not be able to tell that something written about you is a lie or a joke. You must actively combat the falsehoods and advocate for yourself; it is doubtful that anyone else will do it for you.
