Suspected terrorist Aafia Siddiqui has demanded that Jews be excluded from the jury pool for her trial. She also seemed to indicate that all the panelists should be presumed Jewish until genetic testing confirmed otherwise. It will not happen; Jews will not be throw out of the jury pool because they are Jewish, nor will they be subjected to genetic testing, nor would any such testing somehow proving they were Jewish or had a Jewish heritage result in them being removed. She made this demand 'in the interest of fairness'. She is also none to pleased that the judge, Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman [no relation], is Jewish.
Why does any of this matter besides being an interesting anecdote? It cuts against the notion that the world; specifically the Muslim and Arab world, will be awestruck with our justice system. Should Aafia Siddiqui be convicted it will be because of 'those tricky Jews who were really just angry over/at _____'. The Jews have been accused of a lot worse on a lot less 'evidence'. If these trails are being held for the benefit of foreign consumption (which would be an awful reason to begin with), I certainly hope it was not meant for the Arab or Muslim world.
"Jury selection in the "Lady Al Qaeda" trial got off to a bizarre start Wednesday with the accused terrorist telling jurors she was "boycotting" - and demanding Jews be excluded from the panel.
"If they have a Zionist or Israeli background...they are all mad at me," said Aafia Siddiqui, a U.S.-trained neuroscientist charged with attempted murder.
"I have a feeling everyone here is them - subject to genetic testing....They should be excluded if you want to be fair," she told Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman.
"I don't trust you either," she told Berman."
