Susan Roesgen to Leave CNN

Technically she was not fired, but Susan Roesgen's contract to work at CNN will not be renewed. It is hard to not see this as a direct result of her awful and bias coverage of the tax day Tea Parties.

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnn/susan_roesgen_out_at_cnn_121788.asp

"TVNewser has learned CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen's contract will not be renewed and she will be leaving the network.
...
When TVNewser asked whether Roesgen's comments at the Chicago tea party rally had anything to do with her not being renewed, a CNN spokesperson said, "I can't comment on personnel matters."

Follow up to CNN's Susan Roesgen Skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest Interview

After CNN's Susan Roesgen skewed tax day tea party protest interview (first reported at Berman Post: Tax Day Tea Party Time), FoundingBloggers.com showed up on the scene with there cameras.

First the skewed interview.

Video embedded below.

Not family viewing; funny comment considering the grotesque amount of sexual references in the media reporting on the event including some from CNN (Berman Post: Tax Day Tea Party Media Coverage)

Then FoundingBloggers.com picks up the scene.

Video embedded below. (From http://www.foundingbloggers.com/wordpress/2009/04/founding-bloggers-exclusive-our-footage-of-the-cnn-chicago-tea-party-throwdown)

It is kind of funny when she says to someone in the crowd that they do not need to be so antagonistic toward her.

It gets worse for Susan Roesgen. After that interview aired, someone people went digging through some of her past reports. Turns out that when the protesters are liberal, she take a much different tone with them.

Video embedded below.

But wait you say, surly if she saw a liberal comparing Bush to Hitler she would have reacted the same way she did when she saw someone comparing Obama to Hitler. Well, not so much. Apparently according to Roesgen, someone dressed as a cross between Bush, Hitler, and Satan is a Bush "look alike". No appreciable outrage could be detected from Roesgen. Picture available at the source.

"Susan Roesgen: "City officials aren’t the only ones wondering when federal money will materialize. Catholic school girls marched on Jackson Square. They and their teachers say more money is needed to fix the levees, and they hoped the President would stop by after his meeting with business leaders. But while a look-alike showed up with a wad of cash, Mr. Bush did not." Real Player or Windows Media" (click on the Real Player of Windows Media to download the video)

It also appears that Roesgen really wanted to work for Fox News. A report says she was turned down twice by Fox News (http://gawker.com/5216313/fox+bashing-cnn-reporter-applied-for-a-job-at-fox). Could that explain her hostility toward that network?

Susan Roesgen 'Takes a Break'

CNN's Susan Roesgen has come under fire recently for her skewed interview at a tax day tea party protest and the revelation of the different slants she takes when confronted by protesters of different ideological persuasions (in depth at Berman Post: Follow up to CNN's Susan Roesgen Skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest Interview). She is now on a "previously-planned vacation".

'Previously planned'? Sure, if I was a news boss I would schedule 'vacation' time for any employee who publicly embarrasses themselves and the network for right after that incident takes place.

Former CNN Reporter O'Connor on Roesgen - 'She Crossed A Journalistic Line'

Former CNN reporter Eileen O'Connor commented on Susan Roesgen skewed Tax Day Tea Party interview (Berman Post: Follow up to CNN's Susan Roesgen Skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest Interview). There is talk about how hiding her (Berman Post: Susan Roesgen 'Takes a Break') and trying to erase it (Berman Post: CNN Using Copyright to Erase Embarrassing Roesgen Tax Day Tea Party Clips) is the wrong way to handle this. O'Connor also takes a glancing shot at Rick Santelli for his famous rant (Berman Post: Rick Santelli Catch up) before taking it back provided he was/is a commentator instead of a reporter.

CNN Using Copyright to Erase Embarrassing Roesgen Tax Day Tea Party Clips

CNN's Susan Roesgen embarrassed herself and her network with her skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest (Berman Post: Follow up to CNN's Susan Roesgen Skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest Interview) which likely resulted in her "previously-planned vacation" (Berman Post: Susan Roesgen 'Takes a Break'). It appears now that CNN is going around using copyright claims to get YouTube to remove all videos of it. This includes videos that use a small part of it in order to comment or put longer clips into prospective.

According to http://copyrightsandcampaigns.blogspot.com/2009/04/cnn-makes-copyright-claim-on-video.html, CNN is in the wrong here.

Founding Bloggers are considering a counter claim (http://www.foundingbloggers.com/wordpress/2009/04/cnn-disappears-our-clip-a-follow-up).

If they really believe copyright violations going on here, lets see them force Fox News to take down their video.

Video embedded below.

At the same time, some on the right are on a mission to keep reposting the videos and make a test case out of this (http://patterico.com/2009/04/18/cnn-the-latest-corporate-thug-to-use-copyright-as-a-weapon-to-eliminate-embarrassing-clips-from-youtube).

Lou Dobbs Strikes Back at Olbermann And Garofalo

In a video I posted at Berman Post: Tax Day Tea Party Media Coverage, Olbermann and Garofalo took some time off from bashing the Tea Party Protesters by calling them racist and mentally deficient while using sexual innuendo humor to make fun of Dobbs. Dobbs hit back.

DC Crowd Shouts Over CNN Reporter 9/12 March

Tea Party protesters shouted over a CNN reporter during a live broadcast.

Perhaps this is why:

Or it could be the memory of Susan Roesgen's skewed interview.

Norah O’Donnell (MSNBC) Ambushes 17 Year Old Palin Admirer

I remember Susan Roesgen being 'let go' for doing the same thing (start here, then see this, this, and then this) accept the person she was interviewing was old enough to vote. Jackie Seal is 17. Do not expect anything to happen to O’Donnell save some accolades.

Video embedded below.

"It wasn’t the only false statement. Jackie forced O’Donnell to explain her statement that Palin backed the bailouts rather than take O’Donnell’s word for it. The only thing O’Donnell could offer was a wan statement of generic support for John McCain from Palin, not an explicit “hey, let’s give away a trillion dollars to Wall Street” policy statement. O’Donnell not only looked for someone she could bully, but then did so dishonestly, rather than report objectively or even argue honestly."

You can see Jackie Seal's response / after thought at http://redwhiteandconservative.wordpress.com/2009/11/20/the-day-i-met-sarah-palin-and-the-liberal-media.

May Day Immigration Rally in Union Square (NYC)

I just got back from the Immigration Rally/Protest in Union Square (NYC). It was still going on when I left, but the rain seemed to be thinning out the crowd. My guess it that at its height there were a little over 400 people there.

The crowd was pretty diverse. As you would expect with this sort of rally, there were a lot of pro immigration people. A half dozen or so pro-Palestinian protesters were there as well. Socialists abound, even a small group of revolutionary socialists who wanted to violently over throw the government. I saw one guy there with an IDF (Israeli Defense Force) hat who was walking around to see what it was all about.

Before getting into the messages and signs, a few people deserve some special mention. Most of the people I talked to where friendly even after it became apparent I disagreed with what they believed. We were still able to have civilized conversations. That included the militant socialists, immigrants from a number of countries, and the pro-Palestinian groups. As I said, pretty much everyone. Everyone except this lady:

From 5-1-2009 May Day Protest

She just kept yelling at me and calling me names. She also hit me in the leg with her cane a couple of times, though not in a way that seemed she was trying to hurt me. I think the 'assault' was accidental as she was just very riled up and did not notice what she was doing. What did I say that was so provocative; I challenged the person's view that the United States flag represented oppression, who was standing next to her. The guy standing next to her was Puerto Rican, and though it was hard to understand her through the yelling I believe she was as well. Someone got a piece of it on video and he said he would mail it to me. When/if I get it I will put it up.

There were two other guys who I think were trying to intimidate me. In the picture below it is the guy in the front left looking at his phone and the guy on the right with sunglasses on. The second picture is a better shot of the second guy.

From 5-1-2009 May Day Protest

I do not know what the second guy's name is, but he knows mine. He asked me what my name was and the website that I was going to post the photos I was taking on, so I told him. He even asked me to make sure he got the spelling right, and I confirmed that he had. That was before I took a picture of him, or at least before I took a picture of him with conscious effort. He must not of liked the way I was walking around taking pictures of what I saw because at some point he and his buddy ran up on me to take my picture. It was kind of funny, I did not understand what they were doing at first. I saw the camera out of the corner of my eye and though I was about to ruin one of their shots. With that in mind, I turned quickly to not block it. The same thing then happened with his friend a few seconds later and I reacted the same way thinking the same thing. As they ran to surround me shoving their camera's in my face I finally figured it out. So I let them take a picture of me. I even asked if they wanted to take a picture with me. The guy with glasses took a swipe at my camera when I tried to get a close up of him the same way he did to me. He mumbled some other 'stuff' at me, but I really did not care.

I am not going to be intimidated by people like that. What does he think he is going to do, blow my cover? If I wanted to be anonymous I would not have named the site BERMAN Post. I would not have my full name on every post I write. I would not include my history on the site (Berman Post: Introducing the Berman Post and Berman Post: Introduction - Andrew Berman). I would not have pictures of myself on here. Last but not least, I would not have told him who I am and where he could find my site. There is something seriously wrong with this country when people are afraid to let their identity be know for fear of reprisal like 'Norm' (Berman Post: Mark Levin And Neil Cavuto Interview 'Norm' (Recipient of Susan Roesgen's Skewed Tax Day Tea Party Protest Interview)).

Anyways, I figure him and his buddy will read this, so this next part is aimed right at them. Post a response in the comments, let all of us know who you are and how to contact you. Feel free to present your side.

On to the messages and signs. Most of the signs were what you would expect. They were for more workers right, lax immigration, and so on. A few were pretty out there. Here are my favorite out there pictures.

There were a lot of flags at the event, and from a lot of different countries. People were showing up with bundles of flags to sell them to people in the crowd. There were also a lot of duplicate signs. From what I could tell, the organizer or some group brought hundreds of the same exact sign to hand out to people as they showed up.

Let me show you some of the better characters I came across. I did not get to speak to all of them, but the ones I did seemed to be enjoying life. Nice, friendly people.

Let me finish it off with the media attendance. There were a lot of cameras, and not all of them had visible logos. I took pictures of the ones I could, and one of the organizers let me take a picture of the media sign in list. Someone who has a bit more time then me can cross reference the list of media outlets that showed up to this roughly 400 person event with those that covered the 12,500 Tax Day Tea Party protest in NYC (Berman Post: NYC Tax Day Tea Party). The list may not be all inclusive.
