The idea seems simple enough when you take a step back; tiny flying pixels that can rearrange themselves offering 3D display capabilities. In practice it requires swarms of perfectly engineered robots that must be able to move quickly to designated stops and avoid colliding with each other. MIT is working on it. Right now each helicopters is about the size of a golf ball. I am looking forward to being able to take a small case out of my pocket with a thousand or so tiny 'decedents' of the first generation and being able to have the same functionality.
