Fake Products And Companies Certified by Energy Star

Energy Star has some egg on its face after the Government Accountability Office submitted bogus companies and products for certification and had a success rate of 3/4th (15 out of 20). The reason for the problem is that manufacturers submit their own data on efficiency which is not independently verified.

"The Government Accountability Office Punk'd Energy Star recently by submitting fake products and companies for certification. The Environmental Protection Agency's arbiters of efficiency standards rubber-stamped 15 out of 20 bogus products and a handful of fake firms became Energy Star Partners."
