Russia is Working on Anti-Satellite Weapons

Any hope that still exist that space would be a demilitarized zone just got slashed. Not that many people really believed it, but there were a few. Russia has announced that it is working on anti-satellite weapons. At the same time they say that they appose a space arms race, but are forced to as to not get left behind. There could be some truth to that last statement. China famously recently shot down one of its own satellites. Russia has also accused the United States of developing space weapons. Russia is not really doing well economically, and it would seem foolish for them to intentionally spark an arms race which they would be in a disadvantaged position and would serve to increase their economic pains.
