A breakthrough in battery technology offers the prospects of batteries that could be charge in seconds. The same technology allows for rapid discharge. The applications for such technology are obvious. Imagine if a traveler on the go could find a plug in their phone, count to 5, and then be on their way again. The same goes for laptops which would be especially important as more kids use laptops in schools that were not designed to have a plug per student in every classroom. Electric cars could be revolutionized as well. One of the biggest problems with electronic cars in how long it takes to recharge them once the battery is depleted. This technology could be available in two years.

"The scientists found that by coating particles of lithium iron phosphate in a glassy material called lithium pyrophosphate, ions can bypass these channels and move more quickly. “It works like a beltway around a city,” Professor Ceder said."
