Obama Gets History of North America Wrong (Says 'Long Before America Was Even an Idea Mexico Was Around')

While most of the attention was focused on Obama Misquoting The Preamble to The Declaration of Independence; just before that he got North American history wrong. He said that long before America was even an idea there were Mexicans here. Mexico came about roughly a half century after the Declaration of Independence was written.

Video embedded below.

"Obama even emphasized the word Mexicans in his speech. There’s only one problem with that statement: Mexico didn’t exist in 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was written, the earliest recorded moment of America being an idea. Mexico didn’t exist in 1788, when the US wrote its Constitution, or 1789, when George Washington became our first President. In fact, Mexico didn’t exist at all until 1821, when the colony that had been known as New Spain declared its own independence. Before that, the area was populated with … Spaniards and countless Indian tribes."

  2. Actually, you're wrong. Texas belonged to Mexico before it became a republic and then a U.S. state. After the Mexican-American War, we also took a large amount of territory from Mexico. So yes, there were Mexicans in the present idea of America

  3. @Anonymous - Obama said 'He said that long before America was even an idea there were Mexicans here'. Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, Mexican Independence was in 1821. Now I may not be the best mathematician out there, but I am pretty sure the year 1821 did not happen before 1776.
