Biden - 'Obama Faced Tougher Decisions Than FDR'

Obama, the greatest leader ever in the history of history ... at least according to his administration. World War Two, the Great Depression, pish posh.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/obama-made-hair-curling-decisions-biden-says

"Vice President Joe Biden today assured a group of campaign donors in Wisconsin that Republican criticism of President Obama’s leadership style doesn’t match up with what he’s witnessed firsthand.

“I’ve watched him make decisions that would make another man or woman’s hair curl,” Biden told the crowd of 150 inside the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, according to a pool reporter on scene.

Biden, who has said he’s the last man in the room with Obama before a tough call, often attests that his boss has a “backbone like a ramrod.”

And today he said that mettle — and the “serious problems” Obama faced upon taking office — put the president in a class of his own.

“I think I can say … no president, and I would argue in the 20th century and including now the 21st century, has had as many serious problems which are cases of first-instance laid on his table,” Biden said. “Franklin Roosevelt faced more dire consequences, but in a bizarre way it was more straightforward.”

The vice president claimed that the complexity of the 2008 financial crisis presented challenges in a way the Great Depression of 80 years ago did not.

"Mariya Dmitriyenko had just won the gold medal in the 75 target event at the 10th Arab Shooting Championship in Kuwait and as she stood on the podium with the other medal winners she was expecting to hear the sound of the Kazakhstan national anthem.

Instead the obscene lyrics of the spoof Kazakhstan anthem from the film Borat began to play.
...
The organisers had found a copy of the anthem online and hadn't realised it was from the satirical film the head coach of Kazakhstan’s team, Anvar Yunusmetov, told Tengrinews.kz on Friday.

Obama Budget Defeated 414-0 in The House

Not a single vote in support, even from his own party.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2012/mar/28/obama-budget-defeated-414-0

"President Obama's budget was defeated 414-0 in the House late Wednesday, in a vote Republicans arranged to try to embarrass him and shelve his plan for the rest of the year.

The vote came as the House worked its way through its own fiscal year 2013 budget proposal, written by Budget Committee Chairman Paul D. Ryan. Republicans wrote an amendment that contained Mr. Obama's budget and offered it on the floor, daring Democrats to back the plan, which calls for major tax increases and yet still adds trillions of dollars to the deficit over the next decade.

"It’s not a charade. It’s not a gimmick — unless what the president sent us is the same," said Rep. Mick Mulvaney, a freshman Republican from South Carolina who sponsored Mr. Obama's proposal for purposes of the debate. "I would encourage the Democrats to embrace this landmark Democrat document and support it. Personally, I will be voting against it."

But no Democrats accepted the challenge.

Passengers Subdue Captain Who Loses it Mid-flight

Baring technical problems or a attack from without (missiles, bullets, lasers...), this is the biggest threat to airplanes and their passengers. No one will ever again forcibly take the cockpit unless they have already killed all 100+ passengers, but a pilot gone crazy is already at the helm. They do not have to deal with all the angry passengers who know the consequence of not fighting back, but only a handful of fellow cockpit occupants.

Video embedded below.

"A JetBlue flight captain had to be tackled by passengers today after he ran up and down a packed flight screaming about "terrorism" and "al Qaeda" in a terrifying mid-air outburst.

“Say your prayers!” the crazed pilot screamed as he ran up and down the aisle, a passenger told The Post.
...
The crazed captain’s outburst came after he was booted from the cockpit, passengers said.

He banged on the cockpit door asking to be let back in before passengers subdued him, said authorities.

Four passengers, including a retired NYPD sergeant jumped up and held the man down, Fox 5 reported.

Obama Asks Medvedev For 'Space' on Missile Shield — 'After my Election I Will Have More Flexibility'

I can not believe this is not a bigger story. Obama appears to have just told Russia that he is going to do something hugely unpopular with the American people, as long as Russia lets him wait until after the election to deal with it. "After my election I have more flexibility" - if we are seeing Obama 'restrained' I shutter to think what a more 'flexible' Obama would look like.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/president-obama-asks-medvedev-for-space-on-missile-defense-after-my-election-i-have-more-flexibility

"At the tail end of his 90 minute meeting with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev Monday, President Obama said that he would have “more flexibility” to deal with controversial issues such as missile defense, but incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin needs to give him “space.”

The exchange was picked up by microphones as reporters were let into the room for remarks by the two leaders.

The exchange:

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir."

Supreme Court Unanimously Rules Landowners Can Sue to Challenge a Federal Government Compliance Order Under The Clean Water Law

You have seen this couple's story here a few time with regard to serious EPA overreach and the Unconstitutional prohibition again legal avenues to contest rulings. There is no question this ruling was the right one.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/21/us-usa-court-epa-idUSBRE82K0YT20120321

"The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that landowners can sue to challenge a federal government compliance order under the clean water law, a decision that sides with corporate groups and puts new limits on a key Environmental Protection Agency power.

The justices unanimously rejected the government's position that individuals or companies must first fail to comply with an EPA order and face potentially costly enforcement action before a court can review the case.

The opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia was a victory for an Idaho couple who challenged a 2007 EPA order that required them to restore a wetland they had filled with dirt and rock as they began to build a new vacation home near Priest Lake. They were also told to stop construction on the home.

The couple, Chantell and Michael Sackett, denied their property had ever contained a wetland and complained they were being forced to comply with an order without a court hearing.

Bin Laden Killing Most Audacious Plan in 500 Years

This is a twofer for Biden. First, he gave praise to the plan over the raid itself. It was be no stretch an audacious call to hunt down Bin Laden. While the successful of the raid is obviously praiseworthy, the most audacious thing in half a millennium it was not. Washington's crossing of the Delaware anyone? How about Normandy?

"The world’s largest and most resilient BitTorrent site plans to redefine “cloud computing” with a plan to move at least some of its servers onto unmanned drones miles above Sweden.

In a Sunday blog post, The Pirate Bay announced new "Low Orbit Server Stations" that will house the site's servers and files on unmanned, GPS-controlled, aircraft drones.

One of the sites administrators, MrSpock, said with the advent of miniature computers such as the Raspberry Pi, a $35 micro computer the size of a thumb drive that includes a WiFi and SD card slot for storage, the site can take its servers far from any law enforcement.

“We’re going to experiment with sending out some small drones that will float some kilometers up in the air,” MrSpock wrote. “This way our machines will have to be shut down with aeroplanes in order to shut down the system. A real act of war.”

Sebelius - 'Do Not Call Kids Jerks' / Sebelius a Short While Later - 'Call Some Kids Jerks'

Message confusion and flip flopping, a problem across the entire Obama administration.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/16/sebelius-to-kids-instead-of-calling-each-other-jerks-why-dont-you-call-each-other-jerks

"Yesterday at a Washington D.C. middle school, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius hosted a screening of the Cartoon Network’s new film, “Stop Bullying: Speak Out.” As its name suggests, the movie aims to teach kids to speak out when they witness bullying — and to not bully other children themselves. One of its many prescriptions: Don’t call classmates words like “stupid,” “fat” and “jerk.”

Sebelius must have dozed off during the film, though, because, after the screening ended, in a panel discussion moderated by CNN’s Don Lemon, she gave advice that directly contradicted the movie:

“What do you think is the best advice for people who are going into watching this film and anyone who is watching?” asked Lemon.

As part of her answer, Sebelius said: “I think, very important, is for kids to understand how powerful you really are. You might feel like you’re not big enough, not strong enough, not–don’t have enough tools. But just saying, ‘Stop it! You know, you’re being a jerk!’–walk away, get away from this person can make a huge amount of difference.”

“And you can really rescue somebody,” Sebelius said. “You can be a real hero.”

Which is it? Is “jerk” a taboo word or the right word to use to speak out against … jerks? As they say, “Live by political correctness, die by political correctness.” As we teach kids to stand up against bullies, are we actually depriving them of the skills and tools they need to stand up against bullies? It’s a serious question.

Sebelius contradicted herself on another point. She said the government plays an important role in combating bullying in schools — presumably by drawing awareness to the issue. But then she hit the nail on the head when she said parents should step in when a child is bullied. “As a parent you should be empowered to really act on behalf of your child and other children,” she said.

Part of $11M grant for Detroit job seekers only aided 2

Failure was only helping two. Success, would have been 400?!? Serious waist of money.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120307/METRO01/203070333/Audit-Part-11M-grant-Detroit-job-seekers-only-aided-2

"Part of an $11 million grant intended to provide business attire to 400 low-income job-seekers instead helped only two people, an audit of the city's Department of Human Services has found.

The audit, conducted by the city's auditor general for the period from July 2009 to September 2011, found the department failed to control the operations and finances of a boutique that was to provide the clothes.

The department did not safeguard grant funds or create an inventory for the clothing, the audit found.

Among the most telling findings, which will be discussed today during a City Council committee meeting, is that a third-party contractor advanced $148,000 to a downtown Detroit clothing store and opened an account, but did not include the city on the account.

Environmentalists Petition EPA to Ban Lead in Ammunition

There is nothing environmental about their goals. This is a poorly veiled attempt to significantly increase the cost of ammunition in a back door attempt increase the difficulty and expense of citizens exercising their first amendment rights. This failed the first time around pretty miserably, and I would suspect given the timing it will again now. If the Republicans do not take the White House in the upcoming election, expect a third attempt with much better chances.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/16/enviros-petition-epa-to-ban-lead-in-ammunition-again

"Well, the enviros are back with another attempt to get the EPA to regulate ammunition (via Instapundit). Think they’re still disinterested in seeking that authority?

Citing risks to birds and to human health, roughly 100 environmental groups formally asked the federal Environmental Protection Agency this week to ban or at least impose limits on lead in the manufacturing of bullets and shotgun pellets for hunting or recreation.

The use of such ammo by hunters puts about 3,000 pounds of lead into the environment annually and causes the death of 20 million birds each year from lead poisoning, said Jeff Miller, a conservation advocate at one of the groups, the Center for Biological Diversity. Consumption of meat from animals that are shot with lead bullets also contributes unacceptable levels of the metal into people’s diets, Mr. Miller said in a phone interview.

The ban sought by environmental groups would not apply to ammunition used by law enforcement and the military. In addition to bullets and pellets used in hunting and recreational activity like range shooting, the petition seeks to limit the use of the metal in fishing tackle and weights.

The application to range shooting should be another tip-off. While some ranges are open-air, few if any wild animals would graze on the range to consume the spent rounds, and fewer yet would be around to consume them. They’re not interested in protecting the environment from lead; they want to use the EPA to make it much more difficult and expensive for gun owners to buy ammunition by having the agency seize the authority to regulate a key component of firearms.

US Soldiers Told to Disarm For Panetta Speech

What is going on here? Did they think one of our soldiers was going to take a shot at Panetta? If there is a target on my back, it is hard to imagine much better protection then a room filled with armed soldiers.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/9144379/Soldiers-asked-to-disarm-during-Leon-Panetta-speech.html

"US soldiers were asked to disarm during a speech by Leon Panetta, the American defence secretary, in a sign of grown concern over spates of seemingly random violence in Afghanistan.
...
Around 200 troops who had gathered in a tent at Camp Leatherneck were told "something had come to light" and asked abruptly to file outside and lay down their automatic rifles and 9mm pistols.

"Somebody got itchy, that's all I've got to say. Somebody got itchy – we just adjust," said the sergeant who was told to clear the hall of weapons.

Major General Mark Gurganus later said he gave the order because Afghan troops attending the talk were unarmed and he wanted the policy to be consistent for all....
However, US troops often remain armed even when their Afghan colleagues have been asked to lay down their weapons and the incident is believed to be the first time they were stripped of guns during an address by their own secretary of defence.

The Human Right to Convenient Parking

When a word means everything, it means nothing. To stretch the bounds of the concept of 'human rights' to something as trivial as convenient parking, takes away from real human rights problems in other places in the world where slavery and subjugation are normal practices.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/03/10/rex-murphy-the-human-right-to-convenient-parking

"The Post’s editorialists have weighed in on the Jobean tribulations of Patricia Howson of Ottawa, and her arduous and inventive quest to park her Mazda 5 on her home’s front lawn. She began that quest because parking it in back of her house requires just a little move careful manoeuvring in the lane space that leads to the back than she is comfortable with. She has spoken, I think tearfully, of perils to her side mirrors, possible scrapes on the paint and a potential blistering of the pristine chrome of the door handles.
...
I struggle to keep this matter in proportion. Granted, frustration about parking the family Mazda 5 is not perfectly parallel (if that word may be forgiven in this context) with Cambodia under Pol Pot, Ukraine in the perfidious days of the sadist Stalin, China under Mao or the Congo in those days of unspeakable horror when Leopold of Belgium set the world to weeping by his cruelties and brutality.
...
Canadians, fortunately however, have a broader understanding of such matters. We begin with the idea that here in Canada, nothing is too small or, on the face of it, too ludicrous to be matter for a human rights complaint. If it keeps up, one of these days shoe polish will be listed as a human right.

Here in Canada, mainly due to the conceptual largesse of the human rights commissions themselves, we’ve been schooled to take a less grim view of human rights. Our human rights codes are more upbeat, something like what Anne of Green Gables might draw up in a whimsical moment. When must you wash your hands? Is it right to heckle? That sort of “basic” stuff.

In Canada recently, human rights have been put through a great experiment. They have become unhinged from any basic understanding of their cardinal meaning, stripped of the aura that we accord our highest aspirations. If the current diluted concept of human rights is grounded in some coherent philosophy, related to a set of first principles, we all await the news of what that philosophy, those principles, might be. It isn’t enough to say that Archbishop Tutu likes the way we do things and leave it at that.

Army Sergeant Goes on a Shooting Spree in Afghanistan

Both horrible and tragic.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/12/world/asia/afghanistan-civilians-killed-american-soldier-held.html

"Stalking from home to home, a United States Army sergeant methodically killed at least 16 civilians, 9 of them children, in a rural stretch of southern Afghanistan early on Sunday, igniting fears of a new wave of anti-American hostility, Afghan and American officials said.

Residents of three villages in the Panjwai district of Kandahar Province described a terrifying string of attacks in which the soldier, who had walked more than a mile from his base, tried door after door, eventually breaking in to kill within three separate houses. The man gathered 11 bodies, including those of 4 girls younger than 6, and set fire to them, villagers said.

Unemployment Holds at 8.3%

Unlike 'fake falls' or official numbers that give a overly rosy outlook, the numbers here actually show worse news then they should.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/09/unemployment-stays-at-8-3-227k-jobs-added

"It looks like the ADP report was more predictive than Gallup for February’s job numbers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 227,000 jobs were added in February while the unemployment rate remained level at 8.3%:

Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 227,000 in February, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment rose in professional and businesses services, health care and social assistance, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and mining.

Why didn’t the unemployment rate drop if we added 227K jobs? It dropped by three-tenths of a percent with similar job-creation numbers last month. This month, the workforce number increased:

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) was little changed at 5.4 million in February. These individuals accounted for 42.6 percent of the unemployed. (See table A-12.)

Both the labor force and employment rose in February. The civilian labor force participation rate, at 63.9 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at 58.6 percent, edged up over the month.

The U-6 number, which has been used as a gauge of “real unemployment” — dropped to its lowest level in years, 14.9%, down from 15.1% in January and 15.9% in February 2011. The number of those unemployed for five weeks or less rose as a percentage of overall unemployed, from 19.3% in January to 19.9% in February, while those jobless for 5-14 weeks rose fell from 22.4% to 22.0%. The civilian participation rate rose from 63.7% to 63.9%, and the employment-population ratio rose from 58.5% to 58.6% — not dramatic, but a step in the right direction.

Naked Body Scanners Defeated by Thread and Needle

This seems like a pretty major design flaw, on top of the other design flaws. Before we talk about civil liberty issues, and potential health consequences, shouldn't the machine work as advertised? How about not working worse then what was already in place?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2111417/TSA-nude-body-scanners-Jonathan-Corbett-video-exposes-loophole.html

"Controversial nude body scanners used at U.S. airports have come under fire again - after a blogger claimed he could easily smuggle explosives through them onto a plane.

Engineer Jonathan Corbett has published a video where he shows how he took a small metal case through two of the TSA's $1billion fleet in a special side pocket stitched into his shirt.

This is because, he suggests, the scanners blend metallic areas into the dark background - so if an object is not directly placed on the body, it will not show up on the scan.

The metallic box, he claims, would have set off an alarm had he passed through the old detecting system.

His revelation comes just weeks after Europe banned the 'airport strip-searches' over fears the X-ray technology could cause cancer.

MailOnline has decided not to publish the video because it details exactly how to circumvent the safety procedure - but it is freely available to watch online.

Chant of "USA, USA, USA" Deemed a 'Racist Incident'?!?

It will not be April first for a couple of weeks, so what am I missing? Chanting 'USA' is at worst nationalistic (which is not necessarily bad, especially in our case today). Indeed, it is more racist to think chanting USA is racist then chanting it. The only way the chant can be racist is if the United States represents only one race, which it most certainly does not. To think otherwise is at best seriously ignorant, and at worse racist in itself.

http://www.ksat.com/news/defenders/Racial-incident-mars-high-school-game/-/478436/9225754/-/145ddl2/-/index.html

"But it was just after the trophy presentation when the coach was not proud of the chant coming from Alamo Heights fans.

"USA, USA, USA," they chanted.

San Antonio Independent School District officials took the chant as a racial insult to a school with all minority players from a school with mostly white ones.

On the KSAT 12 Defenders Facebook page, Santos Villarreal's post reads “this has to stop.”

SAISD Spokeswoman Leslie Price heard about the incident after it had happened.

"This is very disrespectful to our students,” Price said.

She said the district is glad the coach put a stop to the chant immediately and hopes Alamo Heights addresses it quickly.

Obama Holds First Press Conference of 2012

Coincidentally on a day that would have been a big Republican news day. Yup, completely a coincidence. Obama has never tried to pull anything like this before. Besides, how could anyone in the Obama administration have predicted that Super Tuesday would have fallen on a Tuesday this year?

Obama Administration Moves to Aid Syrian Opposition

President Peace Prize strikes again. Not that he is necessarily wrong here. Action in Syria makes more sense then in Libya.

http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012/03/06/obama_administration_moves_to_aid_syrian_opposition

"The Obama administration is moving to provide direct assistance to the internal opposition in Syria for the first time, marking a shift in U.S. policy toward a more aggressive plan to help oust President Bashar al-Assad.

Last week, a group of senior Obama administration officials met to finalize a package of options for aiding both the internal and external Syrian opposition, to include providing direct humanitarian and communications assistance to the Syrian opposition, two administration officials confirmed to The Cable. This meeting of what's known as the Deputies Committee of the National Security Council set forth a new and assertive strategy for expanding U.S. engagement with Syrian activists and providing them with the means to organize themselves, but stops short of providing any direct military assistance to the armed opposition.

For now, riskier options, such as creating a no-fly zone in Syria, using U.S. military force there, or engaging directly with the Free Syrian Army, are all still off the table. But the administration has decided not to oppose, either in public or in private, the arming of the rebels by other countries, the officials said.

"Prime Minister Vladimir Putin says he has won Russia's presidential election, restoring the former KGB officer to the office he held for eight years before term limits forced him to step down in 2008.

Putin won 63% of the votes with more than 99% of the vote counted in an election whose outcome was never in doubt, according to monitors and activists."

Obama Defies Medicare Trigger Law, Again

This is the fourth year in a row he has ignored it.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/01/for-the-fourth-year-in-a-row-president-defies-law-that-demands-action-on-medicare

"The president must not be aware of the so-called “Medicare trigger” because, for the fourth year in a row, he’s ignored it. By law, if the trustees of Medicare issue a warning that the program faces insolvency, the president must submit a legislative proposal to reform the entitlement program no later than 15 days after he submits his budget.

Specifically, the law mandates that the Medicare Trustees issue the warning when, for two consecutive years, they determine that general revenues will account for more than 45 percent of Medicare’s outlays for the current fiscal year or any of the next six fiscal years. In other words, when the Medicare trust fund will cover no more than 55 percent of the program in an upcoming fiscal year, the Trustees are bound by law to warn the president and the president is bound by law to respond to the warning with a plan for reform.

The Trustees issued just such a warning in their last report (the fifth consecutive year they’ve attempted to trigger reform), but the president has not responded to the warning (the fourth consecutive year he’s ignored it). The deadline was Tuesday at midnight.

House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan and Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Jeff Sessions aren’t happy about the president’s negligence and sent a letter to him to demand his proposal. Given that he’s willing to ignore the law, it’s doubtful a letter will compel the president to act — but, at the very least, it should help to call attention to the president’s lack of seriousness on this issue.

TSA Forces Woman to Prove Breast Pump is Real

Don't you feel safer...

Video embedded below.

"A Hawaiian mom says she was humiliated when asked to prove her breast pump was real at an airport.
...
"I asked him if there was a private place I could pump and he said no, you can go in the women's bathroom. I had to stand in front of the mirrors and the sinks and pump my breast in front of every tourist that walked into that bathroom. I was embarrassed and humiliated and then angry that I was treated this way.

When the bottles were full, she was allowed back on the plane.

The TSA is apologizing, saying the agent made a mistake."
